Goals & Objectives

BID 8 is funded by the collection of a Deadwood city occupancy tax and is administered by the City of Deadwood in conjunction with the Deadwood BID 8 Board of Directors.

BID 8 operates under 4-Pillars that include:

  1. Support Revitalization Efforts on Deadwood’s Main Street
  2. New Events/Expand Successful Events
  3. Hiking/Biking Trails/Pedestrian Creek Access/Creek Cleaning Mickelson Trail Expansion/Improved Pedestrian Access
  4. Funding for the Deadwood Gaming Association

Events should have a strong appeal to potential visitors with a great possibility of filling hotel rooms.

Event Criteria

Special event(s) funding and organizational sponsorship will be considered from January 1st through December 31st. Event funding and organizational sponsorships through BID 8 may be granted to events and organizations that:

Host events within the Deadwood area.

Encourages overnight stays in the community by out-of-town visitors.

Host events new to Deadwood (3 or fewer years in existence), or existing events that are expanded or enhanced to increase the duration (overnight stays), or the appeal of the event will be considered.

Provide a good “rate of return” to the community comparing the amount of money requested with the total out-of-town revenue.

Event Requirements

Special event(s) funding and organizational sponsorship must adhere to the following requirements when applying for funding and hosting events with BID 8 funding:

Sponsorship Funding Applications should be submitted by the December meeting of BID 8 each year but must be submitted at least (120) days before the event is held to ensure proper promotion.

Applicants may be required to attend a BID 8 Board meeting for a presentation and answer questions.

Applicants may be required to provide copies of all advertising and promotional materials including a list, radio, television, banners, or other forms of promotion.

Event funding from BID 8 MUST be used on the event applied for and as specified in the application.

Event support and organizational sponsorship will NOT be considered without a budget or proposal from the requesting entity to show the financial need.

Changes in dates, times, and/or nature of the funded special event may result in forfeiture of all funding.

BID 8 properties must be included in all print, digital, and on-air media promotions at the same level as any other sponsor.

BID 8 reserves the right to limit any and all funding regardless of prior funding history or event sponsorship. The Board may discontinue or modify all or any portion of this funding policy at any time.
