Deadwood Public Library

DEADWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY EDUCATION/PROGRAM COORDINATOR

The Deadwood Public Library is accepting applications for a part-time Education/Program Coordinator.  This position is responsible for supporting, planning, organizing, and coordinating programs and activities for the public library.  This includes developing and implementing programs with outreach to the community while working as part of a team to support library goals and future plans.

QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in program development and planning for all ages with an emphasis on children’s programming. Positive customer service and public relations skills a must. Familiarity with library science and technology or a desire to learn and become part of the larger library professional community. Desire to forge partnerships throughout the community to enhance, expand and improve library programs.

Pre-employment drug screening including background check is required prior to employment. Starting wage is $17.00 per hour. This position is 25 hours per week with a partial benefit package. Full Time Tobacconist, Bartender, and Retail Sales Team Member

Starting Wage: Full-Time Hourly DOE. Estimated gross range including tip share of $48K-$50K in the first year.

Schedule: 40 hours/week, variable shifts while training, then set weekly schedule to include nights, weekends, and some holidays and special events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a world-class guest experience in the humidor and smoking lounge through exemplary service and selling skills.
  • Build relationships with customers. Proactively and effectively communicate product features and benefits, as well as promotional information.
  • Demonstrate a tenacious drive for results. Accountable for becoming a trusted, successful tobacconist and consistently working as part of a team to exceed sales goals.
  • Develop and maintain strong knowledge of products in all departments which include cigars, pipes and pipe tobacco, local beer and wine, clothing and accessories.
  • Maintains visual and cleanliness standards to support the brand image. Ensures a comfortable, responsible and safe environment.
  • Follow detailed opening and closing task checklists.
  • Participate in DTC marketing and lifestyle elements including a podcast, social media short videos and other campaigns.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must be at least 21 years old and be a U.S. Citizen or have valid worker’s permits.
  • Previous experience in a retail, hospitality or other service-centric environment.
  • POS and/or computer skills needed.
  • Cigar knowledge a plus.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (night, weekends, holidays).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Hands-on team player with a strong work-ethic.

Work Environment/Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to smoke or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/ or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel or sit; the employee must frequently lift and/ or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.

This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Center in Nemo. The incumbent cooks and prepares a variety of hot and cold menu items for staff; and special events groups that vary in size. The cook is responsible for handling and storing food in a clean and sanitary environment and for the control of stock levels of food and supplies.

Assignments are received orally and in writing from their immediate supervisor or a higher-level cook in the form of a cook’s worksheet, menus, standardized recipes, meal schedules, and special work orders. Plans, coordinates, and times work assignments to assure that food items are prepared on time and are at the proper temperature. Makes judgments about the recipe modifications needed to meet changes in the number of servings required. Adjusts the amounts and proportions of ingredients in recipes while maintaining the original balance between ingredient quantities and the number of portions needed. Suggests to a higher-level cook or supervisor adaptations of standardized recipes to allow for differences on the cooking equipment specified in the recipe and the equipment that is available. Responsible for the safe use and care of kitchen equipment. Work is evaluated in process and upon completion by the supervisor of higher-grade cook in terms of the timeliness, quality, flavor, and appearance of prepared foods and conformance to sanitation and safety standards. May supervise or instruct others on how to improve work methods through performance and conduct evaluation. Work is reviewed in terms of ensuring meals are on time, sanitary, cooking conditions and inventories maintained, food is edible and the quality is at an acceptable level.
