July 4: Unveiling of the New Painting “Never Forget” at Scott Jacobs Gallery at 2:00 pm
“This painting is paying homage to everyone that’s fought for our freedom. It’s a tribute to those that risked or lost their life for our country. People are losing sight of why our country has been so great. It’s our responsibility to ‘never forget’ that every day someone has died fighting for democracy. I hope that people can look at this painting without needing anyone to explain anything. I believe I can make as big of a statement with my paintbrush as others can with words. Like Norman Rockwell; the story behind it is told with the overall image” – Scott Jacobs
July 4: FREE MOVIE “RUDY” in Outlaw Square at 6:30 p.m.
Rudy Ruettiger (Sean Astin) wants to play football at the University of Notre Dame, but has neither the money for tuition nor the grades to qualify for a scholarship. Rudy redoubles his efforts to get out of the steel mill where his father works when his best friend (Christopher Reed) dies in an accident there. Overcoming his dyslexia thanks to his friend and tutor, D-Bob (Jon Favreau), Rudy gains admission to Notre Dame and begins to fight his way onto the school’s fabled football team.
July 5: FREE CONCERT in Outlaw Square – BlackHawk will play on the Sue Lundberg Stage. Music starts at 8pm.
About BlackHawk: For more than 20 years, BlackHawk has shared a unique sense of harmony with their voices, their songs, and their fans. It’s a harmony that has sold over 7 million albums, scored some of the most distinctive country radio hits of the ‘90s, and still draws tens of thousands of fans to their electrifying live performances. Today BlackHawk continues to honor its past as it forges its future and does it all with a commitment that takes their music – and the harmony – to a whole new.
July 6 FREE CONCERT in Outlaw Square – Spin Doctors will play on the Sue Lundberg Stage. Music starts at 8pm.
About Spin Doctors: Thirty years. It’s an eternity in rock ‘n’ roll, and a marathon for the bands who fly its tattered flag. Revisit the class of 1988 and the casualties are piled high: a thousand bands that blew up and burnt out. In this chew-and-spit industry, the Spin Doctors are the last men standing, still making music like their lives depend on it, still riding the bus, still shaking the room. They’ve never been a band for backslaps and self-congratulation. Even now, plans are afoot for a seventh studio album and another swashbuckling world tour, adding to their tally of almost two thousand shows. But faced with that milestone, even a band of their velocity takes a breath for reflection. “I’d never have guessed,” admits drummer Aaron Comess, “this would have turned into thirty years of making great music together.”
Like all the best rock ‘n’ roll mythology, the final page of the Spin Doctors’ biography remains forever unwritten.
Thirty years. A thousand twists. But whatever happens down the road, rest assured that the Spin Doctors will always be the last men standing, still making music like their lives depend on it, still riding the bus, still shaking the room.
